Felix Baby Sits

Hey, happy new year....let's get out our magic bags..!

Only about tweleve two parters into 1959 with the Professor as a neccesary evil, and Jor Oriolo and co,. were making him a symphathetic uncle of the newly intro'd (third regular character), approximately 7 year old (Felix being around 15 years old here) nephew nerd Poindexter, whose name became synonym ous with the typical nerd trope.

Felix sees the professor's lab and hears an explosions, so he runs to see what it possible could be. It's the professor's newly-intro'd genius nephew Poindexter. The professor, now given some growth to be a good type, trusts Felix with this little guy who first, not quite the buddy that he would be,later, shocks our cat with a vest mounted button engaged-joke shock button (like the common cartoon gag of thsoe days;Ponsy"'s button would be just as multi tasked for a while as Felix's bag), then Poinsy has to go to bed but sneaks out to his own lab, where he's accosted by Felix, whom he then gives some potion (you know, even on first view, that something is gonna happen.)

Felix drinks the potion then suddenly gets smaller and smaller. Suddenly, he is no bigger than an ant! He's then literally picked up by Poindexter, who is now quite giant in Felix'; viewpoint, and then the first part concludes.

Second part, Poindexter apologizes (much to his credit) to Felix for the previous stunt, while the cat, now in the kid's science microscope project sees thoe weird Blob Sisters (apparently sharing Felix's somewhat adolescent-young adult age), talk in tandem (Jack Mercer cooly over dubbing to himself..) turning in circles before they're scared off by yet another new one off character..KING BLOB.

(Oriolo and his camera guy zoom in on his several times). The blob advances towards our famed cat, who when punches him good, saying, "No you DON'T!" and then escapes, whereupon Poindexter gets a potion that the kid sprays on Felix, thankfully restoring the famous feline's normal size.

Felix tells Poindexter, "Now LOOK",but Poinsy points (yes, I wrote that) out, "Look behind you",indicating King Blob, with his Mercer/Popeye voice, who then chases Felix, who, however, then throws water on our villian, making him shrink a la Margaret Hamilton in Metro's famous 1939 WIZARD OF OZ as the Witch of the West!

Felix then sees Poindexter's still experimenting, but Poinsy's latest blows him into a big vial, aka, retort, as Felix bemusedly points out with his typical humor (last resort-we mean, retort)

We then end with Felix reading to his new friend, then laughing as he always does  (but then forms a long friendship with him)

With the Professor now evoling to a part time good guy, with some in-format (Poindexter) returns to villiany, where we'll see him continue with Rock Bottom and without Poindexter (except the one with the Master Cylinder, CAT-NAP, and long dream middle ages ones), and a few with Professor as evil or just atagonistic, Felix, and Poindexter (THE PROFESSOR'S ANCESTOR? THE WIZARD and THE PROFESSOR's commited no crime), and with Poindexter, the show actually gets some new dimensions.

(And there's the PUBLIC ENEMIES 1,2 one with the Professor and Rock who turn out to celebrate Felix's birthday with Martin the (self-teleporting) Martian, Poindexter and Master Cylinder appearing (to be blogged later).

Mercer's voice of Poindexter, despite the Chipmunk/Chip n Dale voice, is a bit lower..

As for Winston Sharples's music beds,we first get to hear music from
OUT OF THIS WHIRL
DOIN' WHAT's FRIGHT
BIG BAD SINBAD
all for the first time in the show and seperate from the originals.

Cues
At open, Felix walks, the open from DAWG GAWN, ICE CREAM, and GOOD SCREAM FUN and also used near the start of OKEY DOKEY DONKEY

(Poindexter blowing things up) beeping cues from OUT OF THIS WHIRL
No music till Felix gets the shrinking potion from his new charge
(Felix drinking the potion) Fishing scene with Spooky from Casper's and Spooky's DOIN'WHAT's FRIGHT
And for the first time, the sinister cliff hanger closing based on Sharples original Felix theme!
We close,then,part two
Another space cue from OUT OF THIS WHIRL at start of part two where Poindexter expresses sorrow and regret for what he did, looking in Felix.
When the Blob Sisters come,no cue, but then the girls encircle Felix to the NOT GHOULTY/SPOOKING OF GHOSTS chase

King Blob's theme is from BIG BAD SINBAD, that long hybrid old/new almost all Thimble Theatre cast 1952 POPEYE

Felix gets restored by Poindexter and escapes to iconic 1958 HERMAN AND KATNIP cues right out of FELINE-OUS ASSAULT

Music when King Blob's splashed with water by Felix in his Judy Garland/Dorothy Gale WIZARD OF OZ bit is another from that POPEYE Sinbad short.

When Poindexter is caught yet AGAIN forumalating somehting, and then eplodes himself, and gets a story read by Felix, I can't trace those Famous cues, but an early version of the march based the themne gets played., RIGHTY-)
